Changdeokgung Palace was the second royal palace built after Gyeongbukgung Palace in 1405. Changdeokgung Palace was built in 1405 by King Taejong, the third ruler of Joseon. This Palace was built during the Joseon Dynasty and is rumored to have been the favourite amongst many Joseon Princes. The completion of Changdeokgung gave a harmony to the Hanyang (old Seoul's name) as Gyeongbokgung Palace was to the West and Changdeokgung is to the East. All palaces in Seoul were burnt down during the Japanese invasion in 1592 and Changdeokgung Palace became the first palace to be rebuilt in 1610.
